While there are no definitive data on the prevalence of pinworms in people who are taking drugs, they’re common enough that you can sometimes get them on an IV drip, a syringe, or a syringesaver.
In a paper published online this week, researchers from Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health looked at more than 2,000 patients who had a history of pinworm infections who were also on the medications.
They found that people who were already taking drugs were more likely to have pinworms.
The authors said their findings could lead to better drug recommendations, which are typically based on data from patients’ health insurance providers.
“I would like to see the [drugs] recommendations be based on clinical experience, and we have some evidence to support that, because there are a lot of people who have had pinworm-associated diseases that are on drugs and are on medication and are doing really well,” Dr. Roberta J. LeBlanc, one of the paper’s authors, told Reuters Health.
“So if we can show a correlation between the amount of drugs they’re taking and the amount that they’re getting, then I think we can be a little more cautious about making recommendations.”
For those who have pinworm disease, the researchers found that the odds of getting pinworms increased with each additional drug, from 0.8 to 1.6.
If you have pinovirus, there’s also the possibility that you might not get pinworms if you have no underlying infections, or if you’re taking a lot fewer drugs than others.
Dr. Leblanc and her colleagues said that, if you don’t have a history, it’s possible that you have more than a few pinsworms, and if you do have pin worms, you can use the syringe to make sure you’re getting the right number of drugs to help you stay healthy.
But if you are seeing pins, it is important to remember that pinworms are not a serious illness.
If you’re having difficulty getting the medications that you’re supposed to, you may be able to take them in larger doses than recommended, according to the authors.
“In my opinion, there is no evidence that pinworm drugs are more effective than others in terms of preventing or treating infections,” Dr Leblac said.
People with severe pinworms should be given more drugs to try to help them stay healthy, she said.
While you should never use a syruse, it may be a good idea to ask your health insurance provider for an emergency medication if you can’t get it through your insurance.
